Materials Fee: $45.00.  The book: Dynamic Classroom Assessment Elementary Training, Core Participants’ Guide is the required text and is to be purchased the first day of class through the instructor.
Description: The focus of Dynamic Classroom Assessment is classroom assessment, which is the process by which teachers can identify what students know about critical mathematics concepts, skills, procedures, and facts and then use that information to inform their instructional decisions. In the context of mathematics, participants will explore the way in which different assessment methods can be aligned with specific learning targets, develop skills in creating specific clarifying and probing questions, learn to distinguish between what students know and the way students show what they know, and incorporate knowledge of students’ thinking into instructional planning.

Description: This course is designed to assist teachers in using research-based knowledge about children’s mathematical thinking to guide instruction. Participants will learn by watching, discussing, and reflecting on how students solve mathematical problems. Activities include study of a structured framework of mathematics and how children’s thinking evolves through the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
