Since writing and solving equations is an essential part of the algebra strand, this class will assist students with shifting their focus from the concrete to the more abstract. Students will be introduced to the basic vocabulary of algebra and this will be used to assist students to think algebraically to solve concrete problems. Such manipulatives as algebra tiles, algeblocks, and/or the MathScape lab gear may be used in this course. Topics to be discussed may include expressions, equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division (factoring), and working with multi-variable equations.
